Arpine Hovhannisyan: The programmes implemented through co-operation with the EU are successful, well-targeted and goal-oriented

Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Arpine Hovhannisyan, together with colleagues of the European Union, today visited the new building of the court of first instance in Tavush Marz where the unveiling of a billboard took place. The building was built through the financial assistance of the European Union.

Director General of the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission Christian Danielsson; Director of Neighbourhood East of the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission Lawrence Meredith; Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Switalski; Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Suren Krmoyan and other officials participated in the event.

On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Armenia and on her own behalf, Arpine Hovhannisyan expressed deep gratitude to the European Union for the close co-operation and emphasised that the jointly implemented programmes were extensive and systemic.

The Minister stated that the programmes implemented within the scope of the co-operation with the European Union were successful, well-targeted and goal-oriented. "Thus, we are witnessing slow, yet sustainable changes in both the justice sector and in the lives of our citizens,” Arpine Hovhannisyan said, adding that the sustainable co-operation with the European Union had the tendency to become stronger and further develop in the future.

Expressing gratitude for the cordial reception, Christian Danielsson noted that rule of law was the pillar for every society, and an independent and impartial judiciary was the main direction for the solution to issues.

After the official opening of the billboard, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Arpine Hovhannisyan, together with the colleagues of the European institution, toured the court building and got acquainted with the work that had been done and the conditions of the building.

Let us remind that the opening ceremony of the administrative building of the court of general jurisdiction of Tavush Marz took place in 2012.

With the support of the European Union, 12 court buildings have been constructed and renovated in Armenia, the "Datalex" legal information and and search engine has been introduced, and information kiosks have been installed in 27 courts, providing citizens with the opportunity to follow the process of their respective trials, the status of their cases and obtain other information online. This will contribute to access to justice and increase in the level of effectiveness.
