Suren Krmoyan attaches importance to need to provide objective coverage in closed institutions and apply "principle of not damaging"

On 31 May, Deputy Minister of Justice Suren Krmoyan participated in the opening of the capacity-building training course for mass media representatives held within the scope of the project "A Public Glimpse into a Closed World: Increasing Awareness on the Human Rights Situation in Closed Institutions".

On behalf of Minister of Justice Artak Zeynalyan, Suren Krmoyan greeted the participants of the training course and noted that the Minister highly appreciates the opportunities of open and transparent communication, particularly through media.

Deputy Minister Krmoyan attached importance to the work of the media in penitentiary institutions from the perspective of communication with convicts.

"A journalist working inside a penitentiary institution comes across a number of problems, and to solve these problems the journalist needs to have special knowledge and skills in regard to human rights, protection of personal data and keeping medical secrets," the Deputy Minister of Justice noted and underlined the need to provide objective coverage in closed institutions and apply the "principle of not damaging".

During the event, Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia Arman Tatoyan, Deputy Minister of Healthcare Anahit Avanesyan, President of the Public Journalism Club Seda Muradyan, Chairperson of "For Equal Rights" NGO Gayane Abrahamyan and President of Helsinki Citizens' Assembly Vanadzor Office Artur Sakunts delivered opening speeches as well.

Let us mention that the aim of the project "A Public Glimpse into a Closed World: Increasing Awareness on the Human Rights Situation in Closed Institutions" is to increase awareness of journalists and develop skills in providing coverage of the situation of human rights in closed institutions, as well as improve the quality of journalistic materials on the situation of human rights in closed institutions.
