Issues on establishing anti-corruption body discussed with the IMF Expert Group

On 15 February, Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Suren Krmoyan received the Expert Group of the Intentional Monetary Fund (IMF). The delegation was lead by Head of the International Monetary Fund Mission Hossein Samiei. Deputy Minister Krmoyan welcomed the members of the delegation implementing evaluation mission in Armenia and attached importance to the activities carried out by the delegation in the field of anti-corruption policy.

During the meeting, the possible mechanisms aimed at reducing corruption, issues related to creating favourable conditions for economic activity and investments, as well as the reforms having already been implemented and the instruments introduced in Armenia were discussed. A special emphasis was made to the improvement of the institutional system of the fight against corruption and to the establishment of a specialised anti-corruption body in line with the Government Programme. Within this context, Suren Krmoyan presented to the members of the Expert Group the Government Programme aimed at effective fight against corruption. The parties discussed the issue of creating such an institutional system of anti-corruption, within which it would be possible to effectively ensure preventive, educational and law enforcement functions.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed a number of issues related to the prevention of corruption and especially the system of declaration. The IMF Expert Group expressed its willingness to further co-operate with the Ministry of Justice, to discuss other legal documents connected with the establishment of the body and the structure thereof.
