Rustam Badasyan receives Chargé d'Affaires of the United Kingdom

Today, Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan received Chargé d'Affaires of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Armenia Helen Fazey.

The Minister congratulated Mrs Fazey on assuming the mission and expressed hope that success in deepening and expanding co-operation, especially in the justice sector will be recorded during the term of office of Mrs Fazey.

Rustam Badasyan briefly presented the pretentious reform agenda being implemented after the non-violent, velvet revolution that took place in Armenia in 2018 and targeted at the fight against corruption, the strengthening of independence of the judiciary, police reforms and human rights protection. The Minister of Justice also emphasised that, along the path of these reforms, the Government, namely the Ministry of Justice, is closely co-operating with international counterparts, in this context, attaching importance to a number of programmes having been implemented with the United Kingdom for reforms in the bankruptcy sector, the strengthening of human rights protection, prevention of domestic violence, etc.

The Chargé d'Affaires of the United Kingdom expressed her gratitude to the Minister for the reception and complex presentation of the activities targeted at reforms and emphasised that she will do her utmost to continue the existing effective co-operation between the Ministry of Justice and the Embassy.

At the end of the meeting, the opportunities to study the British practice in the fields of civil forfeiture of illegal assets and revelation of beneficial owners were also touched upon.
